Guns 'n Gear / Smith & Wesson K38 Model 14-3
« on: December 30, 2016, 06:52:54 PM »

I was in need of some retail firearm therapy today, so I picked up this sweet Smith at my local "we've got every oddball classic you can think of cause I'm an old duffer gun nut" gun shop. It's a Smith & Wesson K38 Model 14-3 38 Special, lightly used in its original box, 6 inch barrel. I had been holding out for a true K38 (pre-14), but I gave in and got this one. I love Smith revolvers, and this is the first one I've had in years. I plan to use it for the centerfire component at my local bullseye league. Does anyone else have/use this model revolver? Thoughts?

Guns 'n Gear / Brass Catcher
« on: December 17, 2016, 01:23:18 PM »
I just ordered a CMM Ultimate Brass Catcher so I can mount it on my Strong Case bullseye box and have a convenient "grab and go" pistol box with everything all together. Also, I'm tired of bending over to pick up spent brass. I see other Bullseye shooters on the firing line with them and looks like a time & back saver to me. I'm tall (6'5") so I got the one with the longer 20" adjustable stem.

Guns 'n Gear / Sadlak NM Spring Guide for M1A
« on: December 05, 2016, 03:32:59 PM »
Just got a call from Sadlak Industries telling me that the Sadlak National Match Spring Guide that I backordered a few months ago is finally being shipped out to me today.
This will complete all the standard recommended upgrades to accurize my Springfield Armory M1A Loaded short of bedding the stock. I want to keep it in "service rifle" configuration unless I ever do go ahead with my M21 sniper rifle project and slap a scope on it, so no bedding for now.

I'm closing in on 1MOA accuracy (1.25 MOA right now sans new spring guide), so I'll write up a range report when I brave the winter weather and get to the range.
I'm curious what difference, if any, the NM spring guide will make.

Guns 'n Gear / Range Report: 1911 Bullseye
« on: December 03, 2016, 06:13:19 PM »
This is my 1918 production date Model of 1911 customized by Bob Chow into a target killer "wad gun"
for Bullseye competition (aka"precision pistol") sometime in the late 1940s. One of his earlier guns.
Double diamond grips are original. Used 185gr semi-wadcutters @770fps. Seven shots: one big hole.

"Nutnfancy" is a guy on YouTube that does videos about firearms, gear, tactics, etc. Some like him, some hate him, but either way he's kind of a big presence on YouTube. One of his things is meeting up with his followers for an interview and gear check. Here he meets a Pink Pistols member in a Utah gunshop:

General Pink Pistols Discussion / Post Election Carry Habits
« on: November 11, 2016, 03:55:32 PM »
When I joined the forum I would conceal carry from time to time only as needed.
Since Trump was elected I've been carrying every day and everywhere. I no longer feel safe.
Things are already getting ugly. Has anyone else started carrying full time since Election Day?

General Pink Pistols Discussion / Legally Carry in Multiple States
« on: September 10, 2016, 11:00:08 PM »
Today I attended a Utah & Arizona combo CCW class. I am already licensed to carry here in Oregon. Utah gives me carry rights in the majority of states, and almost all states west of the Mississippi (except CA, CO, MN, IL) and most of the South. Arizona gives me expanded carry privileges in AZ and also adds New Mexico. Paperwork goes out this week. I encourage all to get legal in as many states as practicable for you. More rights is never a bad thing.

Of course, which additional licenses you may want will be dependent on what state you live in and what  that state's reciprocity agreements are with other states.

EDC/Prepping / What Did You Do to Prep Today?
« on: September 02, 2016, 02:26:36 PM »
If you do one thing every day to prepare for (insert favorite Apocalyptic scenario) it really adds up.

I'm off work today, so I took the opportunity to change out and freshen my stored water supply. Thirty
gallons stored in 5 gallon cubes, a few drops of bleach, and put away until the next six month rotation.

What did you do today?

EDC/Prepping / Why I Prep
« on: August 20, 2016, 03:05:25 PM »
Here is a link to an article in the Advocate on what happens when gay & lesbian preppers meet right wing fundamentalist survivalists:

I prepare because I know that without rule of law to hold them (somewhat) in check that they WILL be coming for me. When they do I'll be locked and loaded. I may be outgunned, I may be outnumbered, but I'm going to shoot back.

I am not now, nor have I ever been, an NRA member. However, I'm thinking about it just so I can compete in sanctioned competetive matches and get out of un-ranked league shooting. I'm a 2A supporter that is otherwise an odd (to some) mix of center-left and libertarian political leanings. I'm ambivalent about the NRA. How do you feel about it?

Member Introductions / Hello from Portland, OR
« on: August 07, 2016, 09:52:23 PM »
Greetings and Salutations,

This is my first post, so here is the obligatory biographical stuff:

My first rifle was a 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser, my second rifle was a M16 with which I got 39 out of 40 hits at BRM making expert off the bat (Drill Sergeant: "Damn, ('Huck'), we finally found something you do good." 800 meters with iron sights... Hah!

I'm a rifleman first and foremost, and am into CMP Service Rifle primarily using my M1A. However, during the long rainy months the indoor pistol range beckons. I'm starting to get interested now in Bullseye shooting and competition (ok, ok... "Precision Pistol") and I am joining up with a club that features it and is less than 2 miles away (daily practice, woohoo!).

I have my Oregon CHL, but don't carry daily. Although, the way thing are going these days that may change.

I look forward to some lively discussions.
