I wish to reinvigorate a dormant chapter in Cleveland, Ohio. Same drill?

You have any questions or anything for me, Alex? Haven't heard from you since you went to check out the Utility Manual. Need anything?

General Pink Pistols Discussion / Re: GAG?

I have to pick and choose my battles these days, as my health requires. I have to concentrate on the reporters, filmmakers, producers, and flacks who send me frequently-redundant requests for information, interviews, and comments. In fact, I'm doing an interview with a couple of reporters from the Harvard Crimson this afternoon. I think I've given at least two others this week, and I still have to post something on the Facebook page I was asked to post (I was checking out the page of the person requesting that.)

If anyone needs information or other ammo for such discussions, drop me an email or PM and we'll chat.

General Pink Pistols Discussion / Re: Oleg Volk
« on: April 07, 2017, 10:49:14 AM »
Oleg is an old friend of ours. I've never met the man, more's the pity, but a number of our more Southerly members have. Erin Palette, who runs Blazing Sword, is a close friend of Oleg's, and has done a fair bit of shooting with him. Lucky broad! ;)

Back when I was gafiated from the organization, after my car accident that broke my neck and sidelined me, the Pink Pistols had gone into a bit of a decline. People were considering it defunct, because nothing had been changed on their site in years, and even the links on the site were breaking. Oleg called me up out of the blue and read me the riot act, basically telling me that I couldn't let it die, and was I going to GODDAMN DO SOMETHING?

So I did something. I checked out the site, saw how broken it was, did a Google search to see if those I put in charge were doing anything, and they weren't. So I contacted The Founder, Doug Krick, and said I'd get it back on track, but I wanted the keys. I wanted to be the Top Dog, Head Cheese, Numero Uno. I wanted to RUN it. He gladly handed me those keys, contacted the current webmistress, and she gave me the domain and what files she had. I moved it to my own webhost (I run about a dozen domains of varying activity levels), and took the title "First Speaker", which I shamelessly stole from both Larry Niven's and Sharon Lee/Steven Miller's science fiction books. (Niven's Belters had a political leader called the First Speaker, "Lit" Shaeffer being one of the more noteworthy, while in Lee & Miller's "Liaden" books, the First Speaker is the one just below the Delm of a Clan. Since nobody would have understood "Delm" in this context, I used the next best thing.)

So yes, Oleg Volk is a wonderful human being, and his photography has graced many of our posters and such for the past 17 years -- and I credit him with getting me off my tocks and back into the game, albeit in an administrative role rather than running a chapter these days.

You might want to check out the Seattle or Portland pages. I know PDX has a Yahoo Group mailing list (I'm on it), but Seattle's been under new management lately and might not have anything set up.

We don't have anything like the sheer volume of Farcebook (and there was much rejoicing) so it might be slim pickin's here for posts. But we have pretty tight controls on spammers and the like here.

Go to the Pink Pistols website and download the Pink Pistols Utility Manual. It gives you everything you need to start a chapter. When you have everything all together, drop me an email and I'll put you on the website.

I do what I can. You all do the hard part. I just talk about you all in glowing terms and try to get across what we stand for. YOU folks are the ones out living it. I can't do much shooting anymore, so I do what I can to help that doesn't increase my physical pain.

Man is not so much a rational animal as a rationalizing one. Man will create explanations for things that have no existence in fact. It's what enables Man to imagine beyond what he has to what he wants to have, but the other side of the coin is that Man makes spurious connections where he sees patterns that match. He also has an amazing ability to creatively "not see" true connections that are contradictory to what they've made up.

When someone has a challenge to their world view, until they have the opportunity to refactor their world, they react with fight or flight. Be patient with such people...but don't be their doormat.

It's fine with me. :)

General Pink Pistols Discussion / Re: What to buy and where

i'm not aware of any NRA position that even speaks about gays.

I don't know if they have an official policy statement, but they do have Chris Cheng as a national spokesperson.

Chris Cheng is a member of the Pink Pistols. I've talked with him, he's a seriously hoopy frood. He knows where his towel is and EVERYTHING. He was one of the winners on the Top Shot TV series, and now he's an NRA spokesperson.

I'm going to chime in here. Not everyone in the shooting world is crazy about the NRA. But the claims that it's packed with homophobes slavering to kill us all or something is simply nonsense. I'm good friends with one of the chief legislative counsels at NRA-ILA. We do good work together, and he swears up and down that the ancient incidents of anti-gay rhetoric are long gone, and there's NOTHING in their POLICY that is in any way anti-gay.

Oh, and Uncle Ted Nugent has called me "his favorite lesbian" TWICE on the radio. I got the recording to prove it. And he's on their BOARD.

As for "progressive gun manufacturers"...seriously, that's a non-starter. The progressives want to amend the Constitution to take away the 2nd Amendment completely. The progressives want to put a prog in the Supreme Court so they can overturn Heller and McDonald. This isn't speculation. Their candidates have SAID SO. Repeatedly. On the record.

So why would a gun manufacturer support them? It'd be like a Torah publisher donating to Stormfront, or a game food store donating to PETA. It's against their interests. If you're waiting to buy a gun from a progressive manufacturer, you're going to be waiting a long time. So take the advice, buy a gun, and use it wisely and responsibly. Don't worry about the politics. Behave as YOUR beliefs require you to behave, and don't worry so much about the other guy.

General Pink Pistols Discussion / Philadelphia Daily News Article

Sorry this took so long to post, I was away on vacation.

It's a pretty darned good article. The reporter took enough time to get things right, and even called me several times to clarify points and to fact-check things just in case. It also has one of the better pictures of me.

It's always a good idea to consult an attorney if you think you might conceivably run afoul of your municipality's laws. The FEDERAL law has a standard of "involuntary commitment to a mental institution or adjudication as an incompetent". That means the Feds won't bounce you if you voluntarily went in for something, because doing so voluntarily shows that you are still a responsible person who has realized they need help. It's when you can't TELL that you're a danger to yourself and others that it becomes a problem.

STATE level is another pot of kimchee entirely. Some states will invalidate you for going to a shrink and getting some Prozac, such as New Jersey. Others limit it to commitment to a psych ward, whether voluntary or involuntary. Some will even consider the 48-hour psych hold that a cop can issue as invalidating, such as California. The laws in that respect are all over the place.

I cannot stress this enough: If you intend to carry a firearm, especially in public, you should locate and form a working relationship with a local attorney who specializes in self-defense law. Preferably one who is a gun owner him or herself. Memorize or at least carry their number or card. Do this BEFORE you run into a problem, so when you have to invoke your right to remain silent and your right to counsel you can get in touch with them quickly and easily with as little confusion as possible. Your attorney should be familiar with the "gotchas" embedded in the local law, and know what specific shade of blue mud you need to rub into your navel to satisfy the local potentates and shamans.

If you hire an attorney to advise you (which I hope you will do), take their @#$@^@#$ advice! Nothing is stupider than paying someone for their expertise and knowledge, then ignoring that advice! They know the score and what you can do to maximize your advantage and minimize any peepee-whacking the bailiff might be ordered to administer.

I just did a major piece with the Philadelphia Daily News. That should be out on Monday, if it goes as the reporter expects. I'll probably post it on the facebook page as well as here when it comes out.

Little by little. I don't mind it taking time, those sudden deluges may bring a lot of people to the site, but 95% of them are lookee-loos and hashtag activists. The forum has been giving some interesting and dynamic individuals, though!

I'm not familiar with the Heartland chapter, but perhaps that's my lousy memory.

Pick up a copy of the Utility Manual from the main webpage, it has instructions on how to start a chapter. The more the merrier, but if you only have 2-3 members that's fine to start. Just no solo starts, they don't thrive!

Welcome and enjoy yourself!
