For us Old-Timers who need one, (I use a cane due to balance issues) what kind of stout wooden cane would anyone suggest?

We use walking sticks made of gnarly muscle-wood. They have held up quite well.

According to "Cane Fighting: The Authoritative Guide To Using The Cane Or Walking Stick For Self - Defense" by Sammy Franco
You want your cane to be made of high impact polypropylene or hardwood like oak, walnut, etc, minimum of circumference of 4.5 inches and be a length of 36 inches.
